How have you been?
It’s been a while since the last time I wrote to you, and that’s because I fell sick
But don’t worry, I’m fine now or at least I’m getting a lot better
That being said, doesn’t it sound weird that I hate memes?
I mean is there any sane Nigerain medic who doesn’t enjoy the academic memes we put out?
Well, today I will show you why I hate memes.
You see, not all memes are bad.
Infact, I have a couple of whatsapp TV’s I view their memes almost everday.
But here’s something i realized, some of these memes are fighting your progress
How?
Now, let me ask you a question
How do you feel after spending countless hours reading biochemistry just for you to forget the most important points?
Do you feel bad or you feel like you are a dunce and this medical school is probably not for you?
Let’s continue…
So now after reading, you decide to view Whatsapp’s status and cool your brain a little.
And you come across memes that say things like ‘reading na waste of time, cause las las you go still forget wetin you read'
Subconsciously, you will agree to that meme. Why?
Because it is relatable even though it is not a pleasant experience for you.
Now, here’s what’s going to happen…
Your mind will unintentionally adopt that idea that reading is a waste of time because you go still forget.
And gradually, you will start feeding your brain a bad advice like that even without you knowing it.
THAT IS THE POWER OF YOUR SUBCONSCIOUS MIND AND WHAT IT CAN DO.
Before you know it, you will it difficult to discipline yourself to read because you have already told your brain you will forget after reading, so what’s the point.
So today, be mindful of the kind of memes you view.
Be mindful of the kind of people you allow them to influence you.
I’m already running late to school but I want to ask you a question
“What are you currently struggling with when it comes to med school?”
I’d love to listen and be of help in the way I can
Enjoy your day.
Your fellow medic,
Eberechukwu
